Burberry Prorsum Spring Summer 2010 Menswear
For the next Spring Summer season, my 'idol' Christopher Bailey of Burberry Prorsum wants to keep his Burberry men 'high' and dry:-) High as in high in style and dry on all accounts of the weather:-P
Just like the song, 'I like London In The Rain' by Blossom Dearie, let us proclaim our love of good old English wet weather for next Spring Summer.
Christopher Bailey aptly explained his concept for his new menswear collection, "British town and country under British rain and sun." Hence, from the runway presentation yesterday, out came Burberry models strutting down the catwalk in the varied forms of rainwear. Trench coats, ponchos, blazers come in materials such as shower-proof cotton, waxed linen, tissue weight nylon...all perfect to keep the rain away from your parade. Who needs an umbrella when you have got Burberry!:-P
Beyond the signature rain proof proposals of trench coats and jackets, Burberry surprises with new detailing of bondage-like straps that cris-cross over knits, sweaters and tees. Modern is now Burberry Spring Summer 2010. These strap-like details add a punk edge to the runway looks which I love love love:-) They are definitely a respite from the more classic references from past few seasons. I am most surely going to put these into my must-buy list for next year.
On a more micro level of the collection, Christopher has introduced amazing detailing such puckered/shrunken seams, velcro/poacher details, double collars which showed off the workmanship and tailoring expertise of the different pieces. As for colours, they are a mix from neutrals of greys and browns to chalk pastels of powder blue, aquamarine, soft pinks to bright hues of uniform reds and sunshine yellows. The colour palette is appropriate and looks refreshing for summer season.
For the accessories, I am particularly excited about those 'military inspired' stonewashed canvas bags trimmed with leather and coloured in khaki and greys. Very masculine and utilitarian. The bag styles ranges from carpenter bags, totes, weekenders and rucksacks...so there's a style to cater to any modern man. Again as a bag fanatic, I can't wait to see these in real in the stores next year.
Burberry has certainly fulfilled and exceeded expectations and the new Spring Summer 2010 looks set to be a hit for fashion fans. I know I am!
