The Runway Sniper #21

Prada Menswear Fall Winter 2009/2010

In a sea of uncertainty amidst the gloomy economic outlook for 2009, only the strong will ride through the crisis and the fittest will survive.

That is what Prada Menswear Fall Winter 2009/2010 tries to convey thru a series of sombre, 'tough it up' looks entirely dominated by greys, blacks while embellished with studs befitting an armor for battle. Power suits, classic cuts, designs of longevity are clever ways to convince customers to spend on luxury items in cash strapped times.

Smart grey double breasted jackets, wool/leather long coats, leather shoes and even bags crafted in simple styles will ensure the money invested in these go a long way. Except for the few 'brave hearted'...the heavily studded shirts, jackets and shoes will set them apart as risk takers and those who do so, will emerge even more triumphant than those who hold back.

I love the new bags offered. In rich black or brown leather, sometimes juxtapose with nylon on the sides, but in classic traveller bag shapes. Nothing frivolous, nothing too fancy and seasonal, I can foresee these bags serving its owner for many years to come.

All in all, a focused collection, safe with a twist of risk (in the form of metal studs) that will hopefully see Prada's profit margins hold up against the financial storm.
