Deepika's uncanny resemblance with Kalpana in KHJJS.

It is a known fact that 'Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se' is a true story. A film about a revolution that too place pre-independence of India, the film stars Deepika Padukone as Kalpana Datta, one of the two female revolutionaries (along with dozens of others boys and men) which were led by Surjya Sen (enacted by Abhishek Bachchan).
Since the female protagonist is a Bengali here, one would have thought that Ashutosh Gowariker would have opted for someone with Bengali roots for the film. However, he chose Deepika who basically comes from South of India. Why was that so?
"I had seen the photograph of real life Kalpana Dutta, whose character was required to be depicted on screen," informs Ashu, "The moment I saw the photograph, I could visualise Deepika bearing an uncanny resemblance to Kalpana. I knew that I had got the perfect face."
What further added to Ashu's decision was the solid impression that Deepika had made on him post 'Om Shanti Om'.
"I was stunned with her work in 'Om Shanti Om'. She was so fabulous there and never gave an impression of being a newcomer," he remembers, "I decided that I would work with her if there was ever an opportunity. She has done around half a dozen films now and has further improved her craft. She has corrected her mistakes and taken many positive step ahead."
Well, if her career best performance in 'Break Ke Baad' is anything to go by, if Deepika has indeed moved further ahead in KHJJS, then it would be one worthy watch for sure.
